What's with the spirit world and blood? Is there more to the blood asides being the life of the flesh? Why do people's blood-line have such generational effect???
So, most of us may have heard this common phrase: "It's in their blood..."; Often used to depict the root cause of a certain trait or behaviour of a person or a people from a certain family, tribe, geographic region, or ancestral lineage...
Though the phrase is often applied in a negative light especially when the bad attitude has a destructive implication on the persons involved or to those around them...
However, we do acknowledge the fact that indeed, genetical traits play a major role in people's lives and we also acknowledge the fact that the blood which flows in a human body holds an inestimable value to their physical existence...
As we can also establish from God's Words to the Old Israelites:
"...For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life..."
Leviticus 17:11 (NIV)
This may also explain why in most deep spiritual transactions, be it for good or for evil, blood would often be required, because indeed, the only real currency of exchange in the spirit world is nothing else but 'Life'; Which is also the basis for the practice of the making of blood sacrifices of animals and in some extreme rituals even human beings, for the sake of obtaining a favour or blessing from a Deity...
But as we probably know that in Christianity, the Old Covenant which involved sacrifices of animals with series of laws and ceremonial rituals commanded by God for the Israelites to keep, were all a fore-shadow of the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ which has been done once and for all, thereby abolishing such customs of blood sacrifices of any sort...
"...In fact, we can say that according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified by sprinkling with blood. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins..." Hebrews 9:22 (NLT)
"...But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ...by abolishing in His flesh the law with its commandments and regulations..." Ephesians 2:13,15 (NIV)
However, the other matter of concern surfaces when Believers in the New Covenant still find in their lives, traits of behaviours, challenges, addictions or illnesses which are traceable to their ancestral lineage... And in the extreme cases where worship/dedication to Idols may have been involved, more destructive effects such as strange diseases and untimely deaths may trail the blood-line, irrespective of the civilizations or technological advancements of the current generation...
But the truth remains that the Word of God cannot be broken and when God saves, He truly saves to the uttermost... However, a vital point of note is for us to acknowledge the fact that the blood in itself (the liquid reddish substance) flowing in a person's body, is life-less and power-less without a spiritual force backing it... For this reason, a life-less body may still contain blood but because the spirit is gone out of the body, the blood has no value to give it life...
So, for every bloodshed for a spiritual purpose, especially human blood, a spirit is invariably activated to work... And be it a spiritual force of good or of evil, the effects may carry on for generations, because spirits do not die; and as the blood which activated them keeps speaking, the spirit keeps living and keeps operating for/against the lives of those who make room for them... Therefore we find that such covenants enacted by blood do not get broken except by means of a greater blood covenant...
And the Scriptures says:
"...How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant..." Hebrews 9:14-15 (NIV)
Therefore Jesus' sinless blood which was shed on the cross over two thousand years ago remains potent and active as the ultimate price for the atonement of man's sins (past, present, and future); and man's deliverance from the power of sin, sickness, fear, poverty, death, and Hell; Into a righteous standing and loving relationship with God..
Because by the shed Blood of Jesus Christ, the Spirit of God has been activated to work in the lives of as many who accept God's grace through Him... As we know also that God could only release the Holy Spirit for all, after Christ's death and resurrection...
Be that as it may, the Believer has the responsibility of aligning his mind and mindsets with God, because the mind remains a gateway through which a wrong spirit can gain entrance into one's life... So, by spiritual growth through obedience to God's Word, prayer, and living in accordance to the dictates of the Holy Spirit, the Believer would ensure such room is not created for such spirit to operate legally; No matter from what point or who activated the evil spirit knowingly or unknowingly in the Believer's past generation...
For the Scriptures says:
"...if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new..." 2Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
And it also admonishes:
"...Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-- his good, pleasing and perfect will..." Romans 12:2 (NIV)
"...For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ..." 2Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV)
