God, the spiritual dimension, the spirit world, and spirit beings have for ages been a subject of interest to humans; Christians and non-Christians alike. So, while the Christian acknowledges that there is a Supreme God Who is a Spirit Being (invisible in the physical) and also acknowledges the existence of the spirit world and other spirit beings (such as Angels and Demons); many other world religions also believe in the existence of Deity/Deities or at least the existence of spiritual/invisible forces that can have an effect on life on Earth...

Asides from the fact that the Bible makes it clear in no uncertain terms about the reality of God, the spirit realm, and spirit beings; many happenings or events around us on the Earth and beyond us in space which science has been unable to explain or understand, attests to the fact that indeed there is more to life than just what our physical eyes can see or what our natural minds can grasp...

The spiritual realm is not only known to be superior to the physical realm, but also the activities carried out in the spiritual realm is believed to be able to control or determine what happens or manifests in the physical; and human beings who possess any form of spiritual powers or abilities are also believed to have an advantage over ordinary humans...

In this brief piece, we shall attempt to outline basically some of the interesting characteristics of the spirit realm and spirit beings... This understanding may help us to appreciate what the spiritual dimension is like, acknowledging the fact that at some point in God's plan in the coming dispensations, believers would no longer exist as earthly physical beings with mortal bodies susceptible to death, but as spiritual beings with glorified transfigured bodies that will never die...

The below Scriptures amongst others buttresses the points above:

"...God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality)." John 4:24 (AMP)

"...Every human being has an earthly body just like Adam's, but our heavenly bodies will be just like Christ's... It will happen in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, the Christians who have died will be raised with transformed bodies. And then we who are living will be transformed so that we will never die. For our perishable earthly bodies must be transformed into heavenly bodies that will never die." 1 Corinthians 15:48,52-53 (NLT)

"...For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12 (NLT)

So, below are 12 interesting things we understand from the Bible about the spirit realm and spirit beings:

1. The spirit realm is a real dimension of existence just as the physical realm is to humans on Earth; the spirit realm is structured and organized, and spirit beings maintain a hierarchy in their operations.

2. Though the spirit world and spirit beings are not visible to the physical eyes, humans can be empowered by a spirit entity to see spirit beings or walk into the spirit realm.

3. Spirit beings were created but were not made out of earthly material/dust like humans, so spirit beings do not die (like we know of physical death).

4. Spirit beings such as demons operating on the Earth require physical/human bodies to use; therefore they have the ability to possess human beings.

5. Spirit beings such as Angels do not live on oxygen nor on food and water like us, yet they have the ability to take on human forms and exhibit human characteristics.

6. Spirit beings are not limited by space and time; therefore they can transit between realms in no time; and physical obstacles are incapable of obstructing their movement.

7. When a human being is possessed by a spirit, the person would often exhibit the nature and characteristics of that spirit; a human can also be possessed by many spirits.

8. There are more spirit beings in the spirit world than there are human beings on Earth and there are more activities going on there than we see here.

9. Spirit beings existing in the spirit world do not have flesh and blood (as we know it in the physical) but they have a spiritual bodily form.

10. Spirit beings do not sleep and their spiritual bodies do not grow old; the reason human beings who die and transit to the spirit realm stop ageing, and why if you see Jesus today He will still look like the young 33-year-old.

11. Spirit beings have feelings and can exhibit emotions; they can feel happy, sad, angry, or pain; they can also make or produce sounds.

12. In the spirit realm, nothing is hidden or secret, and spirit beings do not need to ask questions or learn to know things, they just know; however spirit beings do not know everything; Only God Almighty has unlimited knowledge.

Although most of the above listed characteristics may apply generically, God the Almighty remains the All-Supreme Spirit Being, and there are characteristics that are unique to Him alone which He does not share with any other being; such as Omniscience - the ability to know everything (past, present, and future); Omnipresence - the ability to be everywhere every time; and Omnipotence - the ability to do all things as an All-powerful Being. Every other spirit being has their limitations; And like I initially stated, we cannot by our natural minds fully comprehend the spirit realm or spirit beings, as we can only know as much as has been revealed to us.

Be that as it may, every true believer on Earth today lives with the hope of inheriting this immortality in Eternity; a time when God would reveal all the greatness of His glory to as many who would inherit eternal salvation, because of their faith in God and Jesus Christ the Son of God...

"...Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time." 1 Peter 1:3‭-‬5 (NIV)
